I keep an eye on Cruisers Forum and I commented on a question someone had about living aboard a sailboat. I received a very kind response from Loree Alderisio who live aboard their catamaran in Miami called ‘Sea Wolf’. They have a website at CruisersLife that you can check out about their experiences raising a daughter for 5 years on their Catamaran while they cruised and then buying and refitting a 50′ catamaran.
I mentioned we were heading south and she suggested I contact her when we were in the Miami area. Once we got settled in Key Biscayne and recuperated from the overnight motor/sail I emailed Loree that we were close to Miami.
I was pleasantly surprised when she called back and offered to not only pick us up at No Name Harbor, but offered to drive us around run some errands and re-provision.
Loree and her husband Bill have been living aboard their boat here in Miami for years and are preparing to head north next year to relocate to the Chesapeake area. They both have a wealth of knowledge about raising children on a boat and sailing.
What a treat! Loree took us to her Marina, which had a swimming pool and hot tub that we enjoyed, took us to lunch, and invited us to stay for dinner on their boat! Emma James had a wonderful time playing in the pool and we all got a chance to take a nice long hot shower! Bill came home from work and we had a real nice time talking about cruising and finding work. He was very supportive in raising Emma James on the boat. He said they raised one child on the boat and if they’d known how wonderful it was, they would have kidnapped the other two who were older and taken them aboard as well.
It really was a wonderful day and a great treat to have such fine hosts on land for a day.
