When is the right time to follow your dreams? It is uncomfortably easy to get stuck in the ‘one day’ syndrome a let days, months, years slip by in the daily grind of eating, sleeping, and working. To be honest, if it weren’t for the completely unlikely event where everything went south at the same time for us, we probably wouldn’t have followed this path.
Do I have regrets, concerns? You bet. I try not to worry too much about our financial future right and be present for today and enjoy my family and the experience we are involved in right now.
I also have to work real hard and not ‘judge’ myself by the American work ethic capitalistic concept of “You are what you own”. Being a lifelong entrepeneur and capitalist, I scored my success by the dollar- Net Worth, Bank Accounts, Possessions. That day is long gone right now. I can choose to step back into that world and invest myself to the goal of creating wealth as defined by the dollar or I can choose to invest my time and energy to create wealth as defined by experiences.
The good news, you can always change your mind.
I found this quote of all places in the back of an installation manual for a Monitor Windvane manufactured by ScanMar…
Now is all the time you won
The past a golden link
Go cruising now my brother
It is later than you think.
and there you have it…

You are already more wealthy than the majority of the planet! you own an understanding of nature and how you fit in to her plan, you own almost every minute of the day with the people you love most, you own the ability to move your home to a new neighborhood whenever the urge teases you. It’s people like us that will be highly regarded consultants when the feces hits the rotary oscillator. I have a strong feeling that I will never want to leave the liveaboard lifestyle and the bounty of treasure that comes from it. My wife and I have been in love for 30 years now. Our children are grown (27 & 25) and they are our best friends and extremely well adjusted in life. I owe it all to our choice of alternative lifestyle and the face time we have had as a family.
Thanks Matthew-
Especially as a parent, I have to agree that the time and energy I can spend with my child can only help them in their confidence and independence as adults.
