Festivals in the Salt Lake City Area

We just finished two Festivals in the Salt Lake area.  The first was in Springville and it rained basically every day.  The second was Westfest in West Valley City.  Talk about night and day!  The two towns are separated by about 30 miles but the demographic is about a continent apart.

The Springville show was a dud for us but we used it to work out some kinks in the new frankentrailer booth and in between shows we had some custom canvas made for the booth to really dress it up.

The Westfest festival was a thursday night, friday night, and all day Saturday event.  The organizers were very nice and let me setup right on the end next to the power pole.  I was also the only vendor allowed to use my trailer.  All the rest of the vendors had to use a tent to serve out of and the trailer behind the tent.

We parked the motorhome at the far end of the parking lot by the carnival and it was fine.  It’s nice to be within walking distance, especially for Hil who would have to either drop me off and pick me up or be without a car all day with the kids.

The sales were not astonishing the first two night.  Mainly because we only worked for about 5 hours each night.  The donuts are snack foods and I don’t get a lot of traffic during the lunch and dinner times.  The Brain Freeze frozen drinks that I’ve been developing really took off.  It was pretty warm during the day (nothing like Tucson this time of year) and the drinks make up about 40% of sales, which is fairly astonishing.

Saturday was reportedly the BIG day!  I got there extra early (7am for a 10am start) to make sure I was prepped and had backups for everything.  By 6pm, I don’t think I sold but $300 and I actually took a little nap in the long lulls.  It was a pretty day though and Emma had a blast at the carnival. People started showing up as it started cooling off and by 8pm I was really cranking!  There were line 10-20 people deep.  The rush lasted straight until 10pm when the fireworks started and I got a little break to clean up and restock for the typically end of night rush.

By 11pm we were done and I did a quick clean up and closed up the booth for the night.  I cleaned up the next day and did some more organizing to give every piece of equipment a home. We left about lunchtime, dropped the tanks on the motorhome, hit the Sam’s Club one more time to restock and then started the 9 hour drive towards Grand Lake, Colorado.
