Back in Mexico for Christmas!

Just a quick post.

We are back in Mexico. Guaymas to be exact. We arrived and the yard is pushing us to get back in the water quicker than we anticipated. I’ve worked two days getting things ready and we splashed with the new name, “Whiskey Charlie” on the bow. Not everything goes as planned and while I got a lot of things done before we hit the water, the big disappointment is one of our drop keels won’t raise and lower.

Oh well, most boats only have keel anyways, maybe next year.

We checked with Hiram about our mooring in the Bahia of San Carlos. I have spent half the day running around making sure we have good mooring lines and a decent location. I’m planning on bringing the boat over tomorrow morning and Hilary will drive the car with the kids. It’s only 15 miles but we want to provision and make sure everything works before we have to trek everything to the boat via dinghy.

Of all things, we forget the porta bote seats and stern in Tucson. Grandpa is being a good egg and said he would drive it down and spend the weekend in San Carlos. I have our sailing dinghy but it is very tippy and Hil will hate it for a month.

The land cruiser is running fine. It has some issues to be expected but it is a perfect Mexico vehicle with great ground clearance, excellent reliability, and 4 wheel drive.

We are still in work mode. The boat is in shambles as we haven’t arranged everything. The truck is in shambles from the trip down. It will take us some time to set up house again.

There are few folks here for the holidays, which surprises us considering how beautiful it is here. It is also the low season in San Carlos, which we love for the peace and quiet. The winds start picking up and I’m hoping to have a good season sailing up and down the coast.

Typical Mexico, I hired a mechanic to service the honda outboard and clean the carbs (3). After three trips, I ended up taking apart the carbs and cleaning them myself and reinstalled them myself. It is running but really needs to be tuned. The carbs are a little off but it runs a helluva lot better than it did before all crapper up with gunk.

Well, we are here. At long last. We haven’t decompressed yet but maybe by next week our body clock will migrate south of the border and join our bodies.

All I know is the beer is cold and that’s about the extent of my mental state right now.

Feliz Navidad!

You know an ICE COLD draft beer in Mexico is a very affordable price of approximately $1.25! Click Here to Buy Us a Beer.

Great to hear you are back on the boat! I am looking forward to once again reading stories that make me feel jealous. I hope you all have a great Christmas.
